Sabona Trust acknowledges the need for shelter through construction, electrification and equipping of basic health, hygiene and education facilities to better serve the community.

Sabona Trust intends to build a Skills Development Centre in Mabale Ward 17. The skills Development Centre is designed with the purpose of employment creation by uplifting communities’ lives by providing a vocational skills training centre, a central local commercial market place where local farmers, local vendors can sell their diverse various products to companies in the tourist industry, tourists, wholesalers and retailers and also to surrounding communities.

Poultry and agriculture at the SDC will be under the out growers scheme, where the locals will be employed and a portion of the money from the products will pay their labour costs, expenses and the rest of the money will be plugged into local sustainable projects. A local cultural traditional park will also be constructed to promote and enhance local and national cultures.

SABONA DEVELOPMENT CENTER

The Sabona Development Center (SDC) is a major job creation initiative based on the principles of sustainable development and help to self-help in rural Zimbabwe (Matabeleland North).

Zimbabwe’s educational system is a strength of 90% literacy, but its unemployment is at a staggering 95%, of this 95% youth unemployment is 76%. There are few jobs and practically no cash in the system, which results in a “Brain Drain.” Those who do earn money, especially in the impoverished rural communities, survive on (USD) $1/ or less a day. The goal of the SDC is to create employment and have a central market or center where there is an exchange of money between a willing seller and buyer.

Sabona sees a significant opportunity to lift entire communities into sustainability and self-reliance. Sustainability can be achieved by the emergence of a vocational training center that will address the issue of school dropouts, mismatch of curriculum to skills and training required by companies or industry, brain drain and other community education needs AND a commercial market that will create employment and wealth. With the Sabona Development Center, Sabona and the community will address the needs of the entire ECOSYSTEM.

Sabona Trust would like to thank the entire Sabona Norway team, Fredrik the architecture and the Norway Engineers without borders for the sterling work you did on the pre-construction phase of the SDC, Twalumba!!!!
